Volunteer

Foreign volunteers make up an integral part of our teaching and support staff at PDO. The Volunteer Program at PDO enriches our students’ education through daily interactions with volunteers. Such exchanges give our students cross-cultural awareness that prepares them to become future global citizens. For all volunteers, this is a unique opportunity to contribute and to immerse in Myanmar culture and daily life.

The Volunteer Program was established in 2013. Since then, over 170 foreign volunteers have come to PDO. We are always looking for experienced teachers or native or fluent English speakers who are flexible, professional and willing to work in a low-resource environment.

Every volunteer comes to us with their own unique skill set. Many foreign volunteers teach English in our academic programs; support our staff in the main office, library, health clinic, and music and sports programs. Others support our vocational training programs, or provide technical services such as improving our water supply or electrical system. Since we have limited resources, we encourage interested volunteers to consider their skills and how they can best serve the PDO community’s needs before applying.

Foreign volunteers are provided accommodation and daily lunch during their time at PDO. We can also help arrange local transportation, such as airport pickup and dropoff.

If you would like to volunteer, please first fill out our volunteer application. After submitting the application, please email our volunteer coordinator, Myat Mon Thu, with your CV/resume and a statement of purpose for consideration. We might also request additional information to conduct a background check and ensure you are a good fit at our school.

Submission of the application does not guarantee you a volunteer position at our school.
