The tailoring program, led by trainer Daw Tin Tin Shwe, is four-month long, and aims to train distance university students so they can work as seamstresses to earn a living. The program teaches students to make thabi (women’s blouses), innkyi (shirts and blouses), and longyi (skirts). The current batch of 12 tailoring students is being taught by trainer Pa Pa Hlaing.
The tailoring shop offers a wide range of products, including school bags, water bags, wallets, purses, and longyi. The products showcase designs and patterns from different regions and ethnic groups in Myanmar, as the student-trainees incorporate their creativity and personal heritage in their work. These unique items make the perfect gifts for our community members, as well as visitors and supporters of PDO.
